CLEAN, DECLUTTER & ORGANIZE:

This one is not always fun but it's a good one! And it can be done in tandem with rearranging furniture! Decluttering and getting rid of items that no longer serve a purpose can make a space feel more open and inviting.

Organize and remove items that are no longer needed such as old magazines, mail and paperwork. Consider donating or selling items that are still in good shape, but never use or don’t bring you joy, such as old books, games, electronics, art and accessories. Take a photo of your space, seeing it in a different viewpoint can help you identify what looks cluttered.

PLANTS & LIFE:

Plants help purify the air and it has also been shown to boost your mood. Add a pop of color and life with some fresh clippings. This can be done FREE with some simple cuttings from your own backyard. Take a look around, are there some branches or flowers that you can take a quick cutting and pop them into a vase? My favorites are cuttings from my lavender bushes and my olive tree!

BUDGET FRIENDLY OPTION:

  • Check out Trader Joes for their super cute and “budget friendly” bouquets. I have purchased many small bouquets for under $5.

  • Opt for faux florals if you have allergies, don’t have a green thumb or live an apartment building where you don’t necessarily have access to cutting clipping

“SHOP MY HOME” RE-SHUFFLE:

This is what I like to call “shop my home”.  Walk around your home and shuffle some things from one room to another. This gives you some new things to look at in a different light / space. Maybe there is a piece of furniture that isn’t working in one space but could work else where?  Think pillows, blankets, a vase or a lamp.  Check the closets, and storage bins! You’ll be surprised at what kind of treasures you may have forgotten about.

I recently found some accent pillows that I had shoved into the guest closet and are now neatly seating on our entryway bench seat!

PERSONALIZE: NOSTALGIC MEMORABILIA

Adding personal touches like family heirlooms, souvenirs, or favorite books can make a space feel more cozy and welcoming.  Go through your old albums, pull out some photos of your favorite times. Chat with your parents and see if they still have some of your old memorabilia.

  Display these items creatively:

  • Out in the open - on bookshelves, credenza or end tables

  • Create a gallery wall of nostalgic art pieces and photos

• Create a mood board: -  Pick a place in your home to add a cork board or push pin board to displayed all your treasures

TIP: Keep in mind anything. anything of value, should be placed in an area where it will not be knocked over by pets, children or people walking about freely.

REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE:

This is one of the easiest and most budget friendly ways to refresh a space, rearrange the furniture (and decor) that you already own! Sometimes simply changing the layout of a room can make a huge difference and make it feel completely different. If you can’t move around large pieces of furniture, try moving smaller items such as end tables, small chairs and accent pieces for a fresh look.  Don’t forget to experiment with different furniture arrangements until you find what works best for you.

TIP: Add some cardboard pieces under larger furniture pieces to avoid scratching flooring.
